On November 16th, the Monticello varsity basketball team hosted Abundant Life/St. Ambrose. The Lady Ponies won the game, 37-15.
Dalana Trumpy led Monticello with 19 points, while Ellie Gustafson scored 16 points and Sarah Brokopp put 2 points on the board.
On November 18th, Monticello traveled to Madison Country Day School. The Lady Ponies won, 63-17.
Coach Lori Brokopp noted that, “It was a great team effort because 7 Pony girls scored.”
Leading the Ponies with 21 points was Ellie Gustafson, while Dalana Trumpy had 18, Karlie Wilkins had 9, Sarah Brokopp had 6, Jaden Zuber had 5, and Sadie Wilkins and Katelyn Eyler both had 2.
“In both these games, our defense set the tone for us. We scored a lot of our points on steals and transition. Dalana T. is a freshman, who is also our point guard. She has a good court sense and does a great job driving to produce offense for herself as well as dishing it off to teammates. She’s a great spark to get our offense going,” said Coach Brokopp. “Ellie has done a nice job as well. She is a great athlete who uses her height to her advantage. She has great moves to the basket and rebounds well. We are happy to start the season off 2-0, but will need to be able to do these same things when we see tougher teams. Taking care of the ball will be key.”
Monticello hosted Belmont on Monday, November 22nd. They will host Parkview on November 29th and play at Pecatonica on December 3rd.
