Looking for an Increase in Win Velocity

People soon forget the pessimistic weather forecast.  In fact, the cold, windy prognostication that turns, unexpectedly, into a warm, sunny and calm fall day is truly enjoyed.  Saturday at the Baertschi Farm Cross Country Invitational in Albany, the sun warmed the morning and people soon shed their hats, coats and sweatshirts as they laughed about last night’s meteorological prediction.
Our middle school runners show extra excitement for their last race of the season.  That energy is focused into fastest times of the year.  The boys finish number two of a possible thirty-two teams.  Conor McCoy (10:57) cruises the 3,000-meter course under 11 minutes and places 3rd overall.  Rudy Wicker (11:37), Desi Delforge (11:53), Dane Duerst (12:11), Beckett Malaise (12:16), Ty Ready (12:18), Joe Quaglia (12:21), Evan Guenther (12:26), Mason Thompson (12:49), Griffin Ness (12:58), Silas Leuthner (14:05), Aiden Runkle (14:15), Tristan Flanagan (15:40) and Keegan Kemp (15:52), make-up the rest of the young boy’s team.
The first five New Glarus-Monticello JV boys finished within 47 seconds of each other.  Colin McNulty (21:29) led, followed by Simon Blohowiak, Ryan Austin, Jonathan Truttmann and Zack Schiller.  These five guys score 339 points to finish 13th of 32 teams.  Within the next 90 seconds, Lucas Fink and Levi Dearth wrap up their race.  Our conference rivals, Marshall, finish 4 points ahead of the youngsters.
Also scoring 4 points behind a conference rival, in this case Wisconsin Heights, the Varsity girls place 8th of the 18 small school teams.  Gabbie Sawyer (20:30), Gabby Whisler (23:18), Molly Molencamp (23:54), Kelly Fredrickson (24:44), Rebecca Barr (25:42), Walela Three-Sticks (25:49) and Nikki Bushee make-up the team on this bright day.
The Varsity boys score 0 points behind Parkview.  Kyle Fredrickson (17:29), Christian Arnett (18:23) and Adam Nelson (19:11) all beat their Parkview counterparts but Cade Beutler (20:10) and Andrew Newberry (20:14) find P’views 4th and 5th men finishing ahead of them.  With the score tied at 139, Garrett Grossen (20:28) ends up 23 seconds behind his guy.  Tie-breaker goes to Parkview, based on 6th runner position.  Despite a good sprint to the finish, Kellan Zweifel (20:38) can’t help today and the NGM guys are 5th in small school division.
Gabbie Sawyer receives an individual recognition for 6th place, Christian Arnett 8th and Kyle Fredrickson for 2nd in our division race.
Going into the Capitol South conference championship this coming Saturday, the prediction based on today’s team results are not what our runners wish.  Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld and Deerfield/Cambridge enter as favorites.  But, as we know, sports predictions and weather forecasts are quickly forgotten after the fact.  The future is shaped by the athletes and Mother Nature.  And, unlike the weather, our team members are in control of their own destiny.
