MNG Swim Team Competes at Milton

The Monroe/New Glarus swim team competed at Milton on September 3rd. The final score was Milton 100, Monroe/New Glarus 70.
“Monroe/New Glarus fought hard and had a good showing after a long weekend of no practice as well as the beginning of the school year,” said Coach Kendra Kalvin. “We saw Francesca Schiro show off her abilities in the 50 and 100 Free. Morgan Erstad had a great swim in the 500 Free, looking strong throughout. Overall the team came back in the second half of the meet physically, but more importantly emotionally. On to the next one!”

In the 200Y Medley Relay, the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Morgan Erstad finished 2nd with a time of 1:58.31, while the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Peyton Yaun, Anna Newcomer and Samantha Schiro finished 3rd with a time of 2:07.82.
In the 200Y Freestyle Kaitlyn Elgin finished 2nd with a time of 2:15.74, while Taylor Rufer finished 5th with a time of 2:27.33 and Elsa Schaefer finished 6th with a time of 2:28.63.
In the 200Y IM Mekenzie Hammer finished 2nd with a time of 2:17.93 while Peyton Yaun finished 5th with a time of 2:39.56.
Francesca Schiro won the 50Y Freestyle with a time of 26.12 while Samantha Schiro finished 4th with a time of 28.91 and Kayleigh Nesbitt finished 6th with a time of 31.68.
In the 100Y Butterfly Mekenzie Hammer finished 2nd with a time of 1:02.53 while Alyssa Roelli finished 3rd with a time of 1:06.55 and Samantha Schiro finished 5th with a time of 1:12.30.
In the 100Y Freestyle event Francesca Schiro finished 2nd with a time of 56.55 while Kaitlyn Elgin finished 4th with a time of 1:02.68 and Kayleigh Nesbitt finished 6th with a time of 1:10.68.
Morgan Erstad won the 500Y Freestyle event with a time of 5:30.93 while Anna Newcomer finished 3rd with a time of 6:01.89 and Elsa Schaefer finished 6th with a time of 6:34.74.
In the 200Y Freestyle Relay the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Dee Delforge, Laurel Houston and Peyton Yaun finished 4th with a time of 2:00.10.
In the 100Y Backstroke Morgan Erstad finished 2nd with a time of 1:05.88 while Alyssa Roelli finished 3rd with a time of 1:07.33 and Taylor Rufer finished 5th with a time of 1:13.58.
In the 100Y Breaststroke Karley Michels finished 2nd with a time of 1:14.03 while Anna Newcomer finished 3rd with a time of 1:15.19 and Peyton Yaun finished 4th with a time of 1:18.31.
In the 400Y Freestyle Relay the team of Morgan Erstad, Alyssa Roelli, Mekenzie Hammer and Francesca Schiro finished 2nd with a time of 3:56.53 while the team of Kayleigh Nesbitt, Taylor Rufer, Elsa Schaefer and Anna Newcomer finished 4th with a time of 4:32.93.
Results of the September 5th relays at Stoughton were unavailable at press time.
The team swam against McFarland on September 10th, and will compete in an invitational at Lodi on September 14th and have a meet in Watertown on September 17th.
