The Monroe Cheesemakers co-op hockey team played their final regular season game at McFarland on February 11th. The two teams were evenly matched and with a 3-3 tie at the end of the third period, went into OT where the Spartans scored a goal and won the game.
Ryan Molitor put Monroe on the board first when he scored a goal in the first period. In the second period, Cade Janecke, assisted by Hayden Roth and Payton Stauffacher on a power play, scored, putting Monroe up 2-0. However, McFarland scored two goals in the second to tie it up 2-2. Monroe’s Jared Dillon, assisted by Cade Janecke, answered back in the third to pull ahead, but again McFarland scored to push the game into OT, where Monroe lost.
Goalie Heath Bear had 49 saves on goal.
The Cheesemakers end their season with an overall record of 14-7, and a 5-5 record in the Badger South, putting them in fourth place in the conference. They played a round 1 WIAA Regional game at Reedsburg on February 18th. Should Monroe win against Reedsburg, they will play Madison Edgewood at LaBahn Arena on February 20th, at 6:00 p.m.
