Monroe-New Glarus Can't Hold on at Stoughton

The Monroe-New Glarus swim team competed at Stoughton on October 1st. The JV team won, 74-54, and Varsity fell by just 6 points, 82-88.
“Monroe-New Glarus swam an excellent meet against Stoughton. At one point, MNG was down by over 15 points but ended up tying the meet after a 1-2-3 sweep of the backstroke (Mekenzie Hammer, Alyssa Roelli and Katie Elgin) and breaststroke (Karley Michels, Anna Newcomer, Peyton Yaun),” said Coach Kendra Kalvin. “Going into the final relay the meet was tied and Stoughton ended up winning the relay, thus winning the meet. We were happy to see their hard work pay off!”

The team of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Francesca Schiro won the 200Y Medley Relay with a time of 1:57.96 while the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Anna Newcomer, Peyton Yaun and Samantha Schiro finished in 3rd place with a time 2:06.75.
In the 200Y Free event, Morgan Erstad finished 2nd with a time of 2:06.08, while Anna Newcomer finished 4th with a time of 2:13.51 and Taylor Rufer finished 6th with a time of 2:25.15.
Mekenzie Hammer won the 200Y IM with a time of 2:15.94, while Karley Michels placed 5th with a time of 2:35.24 and Elsa Schaefer placed 6th with a time of 2:39.19.
In the 50Y Free, Francesca Schiro placed 2nd with a time of 26.10, while Kendra Wenger placed 3rd with a time of 27.53 and Samantha Schiro placed 6th with a time of 28.58.
In the 100Y Fly, Samantha Schiro finished 2nd with a time of 1:08.35, while Peyton Yaun placed 4th with a time of 1:10.67 and Elsa Schaefer finished 5th with a time of 1:17.92.
In the 100Y Free, Francesca Schiro finished 2nd with a time of 57.04, while Alyssa Roelli finished 4th with a time of 58.46 and Kendra Wenger finished 5th with a time of 1:01.44.
In the 500Y Free, Kaitlyn Elgin finished 3rd with a time of 6:01.93 and Taylor Rufer finished 5th with a time of 6:29.58.
In the 200Y Free Relay, the team of Alyssa Roelli, Kendra Wenger, Peyton Yaun and Morgan Erstad finished 2nd with a time of 1:49.84 and the team of Anna Newcomer, Karley Michels, Laurel Houston and Samantha Schiro finished 4th with a time of 1:55.66.
Mekenzie Hammer won the 100Y Backstroke with a time of 1:01.72 while Alyssa Roelli finished 2nd with a time of 1:06.81 and Kaitlyn Elgin finished 3rd with a time of 1:06.93.
Karley Michels won the 100Y Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.41 while Anna Newcomer finished 2nd with a time of 1:15.54 and Peyton Yaun finished 3rd with a time of 1:16.81.
In the 400Y Free Relay, the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Francesca Schiro, Kendra Wenger and Morgan Erstad finished 2nd with a time of 3:51.66 while the team of Taylor Rufer, Elsa Schaefer, Laurel Houston and Kaitlyn Elgin finished 4th with a time of 4:24.15.
The team has a short break until October 15th when they host Oregon at the Green County YMCA at 6:00 p.m.
