Monroe-New Glarus Swim Team Wins Over Monona Grove

The Monroe-New Glarus Cheesemakers girls swim team hosted Monona Grove at the Green County YMCA on March 9th. The JV team lost, 18-81, while the Varsity team won 95-75.
“The team is getting into the swing of things more, the girls did a great job tonight against Monona Grove,” said Coach Kendra Kalvin. “We had a lot of time drops from the start of our season just a couple of weeks ago, which shows me that the work they are putting in is paying off! It’s great to see the girls get to enjoy their time together and focus in on swimming. Freshman Kristina Foley had a great swim and won the JV 200 Freestyle. Junior Karley Michels also had a great meet and dropped time in her main event, the 100 Breaststroke. Senior and Captain Francesca Schiro swam the 400 Freestyle for the first time in a while and had an impressive swim and time.”
<strong>Varsity Results</strong>
The 200 SC Meter Medley Relay team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Karley Michels, Keeley Mulligan and Anna Newcomer won the event with a time of 2:18.24. Right behind them in second place, with a time of 2:26.09, was the team of Taylor Rufer, Elsa Schaefer, Samantha Schiro and Peyton Yaun.
In the 200 SC Meter Freestyle event, Francesca Schiro placed second with a time of 2:23.25, while Kendra Wenger placed third with a time of 2:36.25 and Taylor Rufer placed fourth with a time of 2:43.92.
Riley Hoesly won the 200 SC Meter IM with a time of 2:42.93, while Kaitlyn Elgin placed third with a time of 2:49.04 and Karley Michels finished in fourth place with a time of 3:02.28.
In the 50 SC Meter Freestyle, Keeley Mulligan finished second with a time of 31.96, while Kendra Wenger finished third with a time of 32.43, and Danika Doll finished in sixth with a time of 34.71.
Finishing second in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly was Samantha Schiro, with a time of 1:18.93. In third place in the event, with a time of 1:21.59 was Peyton Yaun, and Elsa Schaefer finished fourth with a time of 1:22.89.
In the 100 SC Meter Freestyle, Riley Hoesly placed second with a time of 1:06.01, while Keeley Mulligan finished fourth with a time of 1:12.16.
Francesca Schiro won the 400 SC Meter Freestyle event with a time of 5:03.67, while Anna Newcomer placed fourth with a time of 5:30.63 and Elsa Schaefer finished sixth with a time of 5:51.00.
The 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay team consisting of Anna Newcomer, Kaitlyn Elgin, Riley Hoesly and Francesca Schiro finished in second place with a time of 2:04.63, and the third place team of Danika Doll, Karley Michels, Kendra Wenger and Peyton Yaun had a time of 2:13.67.
In the 100 SC Meter Backstroke, Kaitlyn Elgin finished second with a time of 1:16.30 while Samantha Schiro placed third with a time of 1:18.97 and Taylor Rufer finished fourth with a time of 1:22.18.
Karley Michels won the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke event with a time of 1:24.94. With a time of 1:25.41, Peyton Yaun placed second and Anna Newcomer came in at fourth place with a time of 1:29.79.
The team of Kendra Wenger, Keeley Mulligan, Francesca Schiro and Riley Hoesly placed second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle Relay, with a time of 4:38.76, while the team of Samantha Schiro, Taylor Rufer, Elsa Schaefer and Danika Doll finished third with a time of 5:05.19.
The team hosts Oregon at the Green County YMCA on Tuesday, March 23rd, at 6:00 p.m.
