Monticello Falls to Wayland Academy

The Monticello Ponies played a WIAA Regional game against the Trailways East conference team Beaver Dam Wayland Academy on Tuesday, February 27th. The Ponies were seeded #8 coming into the game, while the Big Red were seeded #9. The Ponies were down by just 5 points at the half, after leading with 3 minutes left but Wayland went on a 10-0 run to take the halftime lead. In the second half, Wayland stretched their lead to 19 with a minute left in the game before Jon Errthum made a layup and Sam Allard made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close the Wayland lead to 14. Monticello lost a hard-fought game, 55-69, ending their road to state.
Jon Errthum had a huge game, pouring in 29 points for the Ponies and pulling down 15 rebounds. Reece Rufer put 11 points on the board and had five rebounds.
The Ponies ended up with a 6-6 conference record, and a 9-13 record overall.
