The Monticello/Albany baseball team hosted Black Hawk in Monticello on April 25th and lost, 4-9. M/A was ahead until the 6th inning when Black Hawk scored twice and then six more times in the final innings to win the game.
Drew Freitag was 2x3 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI, while Nick Roe was 1x2 with 1 run scored. Brayden Bakken and Andy Gertsch scored the other 2 runs.
Tyler Anderson pitched 7 innings, striking out 3, while Brayden Bakken pitched 1 inning and struck out 2.
On April 29th, the team played a double header at Shullsburg/Benton. M/A lost game one 6-7, after leading in early innings.
Brayden Bakken was 3x4 with 3 runs scored for Monticello/Albany, while Evan Rufer was 1x3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI. Tyler Anderson and Aidan Harvey scored the other 2 runs for the team.
Carson Gafner, Brayden Bakken and Nick Stokstad pitched for M/A, with Gafner striking out 5 and Bakken and Stokstad striking out 1 each.
In game two, the teams were more evenly matched and Monticello/Albany attempted to launch a comeback in the last inning but fell short by a single run. They lost, 10-11.
Jackson Eyler was 2x4 at bat with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, while Brayden Bakken was 1x4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and Tyler Anderson was 1x2 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Nick Roe scored 2 runs, while Evan Rufer, Leon Parker and Drew Freitag all scored 1 run.
Andy Gertsch, Aiden Brewer and Cody Pryce shared pitching duties for M/A with Gertsch striking out 6, Pryce striking out 4 and Brewer striking out 1.
Monticello/Albany played at Barneveld on May 2nd and at Pecatonica on May 3rd. They will host River Ridge in Albany on May 7th.
