New Ambulance For Belleville Area EMS

A brand new ambulance went into service for the Belleville Area EMS on August 22, 2019. The new ambulance allows our service to provide the most reliable form of medical transportation, which is critical, particularly in rural communities. The new ambulance integrates up-to-date safety standards and equipment and functions as a mobile emergency room. One of the new features is an automatic load system, allowing the medical crew to move a patient into and out of the ambulance without having to lift the stretcher. The automatic lift feature is instrumental in preventing injuries to the patient and the crew. The older ambulance that the new unit replaces will be rotated into the back-up, reserve role and will remain in use.
Established in 1976, Belleville Area EMS covers 75 square miles and includes the village of Belleville, Township of Montrose and portions of Brooklyn, Exeter, Oregon and Primrose Townships. The unit also responds as mutual aid into surrounding communities and is a part of a Strike Team and a Task Force Team which are called into service for a major emergency incident. In 2018, Belleville Area EMS responded to 356 emergency calls. The unit currently has 52 members consisting of Emergency Medical Technicians/EMTs and Drivers.
Belleville Area EMS is looking for new volunteer members to join our unit. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are a crucial link in the healthcare system. Our volunteer membership is made up of people from all walks of life, from retired people who want to volunteer and be active in the community, to students in college, and every age in between. The class fee to become an EMT is covered by the unit if you continue as a volunteer with Belleville Area EMS and clothing and mileage costs are compensated. Interested people are encouraged to find out more information by calling the Belleville Area EMS at (608) 424-3350.
