New Glarus Cares achieved its first goal at the December 6, 2022, meeting of the New Glarus Village Board when members of the Board voted unanimously to accept the land adjacent to Candy Cane Park as a donation, with the agreement that the Village maintain it as green space and make it an official extension of the park. Now the group’s fundraising efforts will kick into full gear. We are excited to share that we’ve collected over $20,000 in donations to date, and have a number of upcoming events and opportunities for people in the community to get involved.
In addition to numerous individual donations from current and former residents of New Glarus, several area businesses have also begun to donate or have volunteered to host fundraising events to help New Glarus Cares achieve its goal of raising $117,500, which is 50% of the cost of purchasing the 2.2-acre parcel of land, along with replacing the dated park equipment and making Candy Cane Park handicap accessible. The remaining 50% is being generously donated by the Only in Wisconsin Giving Foundation, the charitable arm of New Glarus Brewing Company, who has agreed to provide matching funds.
Here is a list of some of our recent and upcoming events and donors. We will continue to provide updates in the coming weeks as plans are finalized for additional events or opportunities to donate.
Roy’s Round-Up: Right now, when you make a purchase at Roy’s Market with your debit or credit card, a message will appear on the card payment terminal and ask if you would like to round-up your purchase to the nearest dollar to help support the Candy Cane Hill project.
50/50 Raffle and Concession Stand proceeds from December New Glarus High School Basketball events.
Meat and cheese raffle, hosted by Kleeman’s Bar & Grill on January 14th, starting at 1:00 p.m. Come out and help support our cause and have a chance to win local meats and cheeses.
Pop-up sledding party to be held from Noon-3:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 28th (assuming we have sufficient snow). Come join us for a fun afternoon of sledding, hot chocolate, S’mores, and Hoesly’s hot dogs.
We are off to a great start, but we need your help to achieve our fundraising goals and save the sledding hill and green space at Candy Cane Park! Please consider making a donation by either mailing a check made out to New Glarus Cares to The Bank of New Glarus at 1101 Hwy 69, Suite 11, New Glarus, WI 53574. Receipts will be provided for all donations within two weeks of your donation.
