New Glarus School Board President Bill Oemichen announced that he has filed for re-election to the New Glarus School Board. Oemichen was first elected to the School Board three years ago.
Oemichen states, “Serving on the New Glarus School Board during the COVID pandemic has been challenging, but also rewarding. Our teachers and most students have remained in the classroom during nearly all of the pandemic. We have taken a number of measures to help protect student, teacher and staff safety, such as better building ventilation, outdoor instruction where possible, testing, masking when appropriate based on metrics, vaccination clinics, and social distancing in the schools. This has allowed our students to advance academically despite the disruption and this is demonstrated through our improved state report card scores and the state grading our school district as ‘Exceeding Expectations.’”
Oemichen also states, “We are moving forward with the tech ed addition to the High and Middle Schools and a new primary school approved by the voters last year. Our focus is, and will continue to be, to build economical yet state-of-the-art classroom space that will benefit our students while assuring district taxpayers we are carefully spending their tax dollars.”
Oemichen finally states, “The New Glarus community gave me the privilege of serving on the School Board three years ago. I welcome the opportunity to continue working on behalf of our students, teachers, administrators and staff, and the broader New Glarus community, to ensure all students receive a high quality education and are provided with the greatest possible opportunity following graduation.”
Oemichen, who has a 100% attendance record at school board meetings, is a national defense researcher affiliated with the UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and Law School. He chairs the board of trustees of Wisconsin’s $6.5 Billion College Savings Program (EdVest) and was appointed to the board by Governors Doyle, Walker and Evers. Oemichen is Treasurer of the Board of Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin and formerly was chair of the Monroe Clinic Board of Directors. Oemichen formerly served as state Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and as the state’s Chief Consumer Protection advocate.
Oemichen, his wife, Mary Anne, and children, Amy and Will, have lived in New Glarus since 2000. Both Amy and Will are graduates of the New Glarus School District.
