The New Glarus softball team was defeated in the first round of regional play against Wisconsin Heights on Wednesday, May 27, after bad weather the day before. The final score was 11-1.
Maya Kramer was one for three with one RBI, and Sierra Whisler was one for two.
Jessica Van Dusen pitched all the innings for the Knights; she gave up 11 runs – seven earned – on six hits while walking 10 and striking out five.
“As our season wrapped up for 2015, looking back these girls have made some notable improvement that may not be seen through their record this season. Maya Kramer ended the year with a .409 batter average, Lydia Sprecher as our leadoff held a .465 on base percentage, and freshman pitcher Riley Parker had our two wins on the mound,” explained Head Coach Hannah Grossen. “As coaches, Coach Moen and myself are so very proud of the time, effort, and individual improvement each girl on the team has made this year. We are both excited for the future. Our team is young, without losing a single senior.
I know this group; with continued hard work, countless hours of practice, and dedication to the game, next year could make great strides. I hope we can become a program that the village can be proud of and hope for their support. Becoming a successful program will not happen overnight but will take a community to come together to create a successful youth with many young athletes participating and encouragement to drive out athletes to strive for success through hardwork.”
