On October 18, 2021, at approximately 11:59 a.m., Deputies, the New Glarus Police Department, New Glarus Area EMS, the New Glarus Fire Department, the Monticello Fire Department and UW MedFlight all responded to the area of W5200 Exeter Crossing Road, Town of New Glarus, for a report of a one-vehicle crash with injuries. Investigation revealed that the operator, Linda E. Derrickson, 74, Monticello, was traveling west on Exeter Crossing Road when she swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel in the roadway. Derrickson’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and there was airbag deployment. Derrickson reported wearing her seatbelt and had to be extricated from the vehicle. Derrickson was then transported by New Glarus Area EMS to the Monroe Clinic in New Glarus. She was then transported by UW MedFlight.
