Ponies Edge Argyle, Shut Out Benton/Shullsburg 9-0

On Friday, April 10, the Monticello softball team shut out Benton/Shullsburg, 9-0.
Courtney Leuzinger got the win pitching for the Ponies. Jessie Garrison was called on to pitch in the seventh inning, as Leuzinger had developed a blister on her index finger of her pitching hand and had to leave the mound. Garrison gave up the only hit of the night with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
“We scored in the first with a Sam Devoe double, she then stole third, and then she scored on a wild pitch. The game stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by Brooke Bidlingmaier. We erupted in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs while batting around the order all with two outs and nobody on base,” explained Head Coach Duane Garrison. “We were up 7-0 after five innings. We scored twice more in the bottom the sixth to take a 9-0 lead and to also take a no-hitter into the seventh inning.”
Devoe, Alyssah Kubly, and Bidlingmaier were all two for three with two doubles and a triple between the three of them.
On Tuesday, April 7, the Monticello softball team edged Argyle for the win, 8-7.
“Argyle came out hitting in the first but left the bases loaded. In the second, it was about the same, except they scored four times. Our bats finally woke up in the top of the fourth scoring three times on four hits and two Argyle errors,” explained Duane Garrison. “We scored twice more in the top of the fifth on three hits and another Argyle error and walk to take a 5-4 lead at the end of five.”
The Ponies would go on to score three more in the next two innings. The Orioles had the tying and winning run on base when the third and final out was made to clinch the win for the Ponies.
Leuzinger got the win on the mound, allowing eight hits, four walks, and striking out four. The Ponies did commit one error in the field.
Offensively, they were led by Bidlingmaier who was two for three with a double. Jordan Garrison, Brecklyn Klosterman, and Megan Lehr were all two for four.
