Ponies Lose Two at Cambridge Tournament

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team headed to the Cambridge Holiday Tournament on December 28-29.
Game one was against Milwaukee School of Languages. MSOL had a 27-3 lead in the first 10:45 of play in the first half. The half-time score was 41-18.
The Ponies were only outscored 41-40 for the rest of the game, but lost with a final score of MSOL 68, Monticello 43.
Jon Errthum scored 16 points for Monticello, and Zach Price scored 11 points. Logan Marty had nine rebounds and Jon Errthum had six rebounds.
Leading scorers for Milwaukee School of Languages were Albert Nicholls with 21 points, and Aaron Taylor, Vergil Tucker and Tyree Riley, each with 11 points. Vergil Tucker led his team in rebounds with nine, Justin Georgeson had eight rebounds, Aaron Taylor had seven rebounds and Albert Nicholls had six rebounds.
Game two of the tournament was against Palmyra-Eagle. With scoring slow and Monticello holding a 5-4 lead with 11:21 left in the first half, Palmyra-Eagle went on a 17-0 run and took a 27-8 lead at half-time. In the second half, the Ponies couldn’t keep up with Palmyra-Eagle, and lost the game. The final score was Palmyra-Eagle 50, Monticello 26.
Zach Price led the Ponies with 6 points and Logan Marty contributed 5 points. Logan Marty was the leading rebounder with nine and Braden Gafner had five rebounds.
Jacob Lutze scored 14 points for Palmyra-Eagle, and Izaak Neubauer put 9 on the board. Carson Poulson had seven rebounds for the team, and Simon Carpenter and Owen Boos both had six rebounds.
The Ponies are 0-8 in the Six Rivers Eastern conference and faced the 5-3 Argyle Orioles on their home turf on January 5th, and then they will head south to play against Juda on January 8th.
