The Monticello Ponies boys varsity basketball team hosted Dodgeville on January 18th. The Ponies trailed at the half, 22-43, and while scoring improved in the second half it wasn’t enough to overcome Dodgeville. The final score was Dodgeville 79, Monticello 51.
The Dodgers took a commanding 24-9 lead in the first 10 minutes of the first half and never looked back. The second half was more of the same.
Jackson Eyler led Monticello with 15 points, while Ryer Indergand scored 12 points and had 4 rebounds and Brayden Ryan scored 9 points.
On January 21st, the Ponies played at Albany. Monticello led by 14 points at the half, and cruised to a 54-39 win over the Comets.
Monticello jumped out to an early lead in the first half, but battled Albany all the way until halftime. A 10-point run at the closing of the first half by the Ponies carried over into the second half and the Comets scored only 1 less point than the Ponies in the second half.
Leading the Ponies with 14 points and 9 rebounds was Jackson Eyler, while Evan Guenther scored 13 points and had 5 rebounds, Ryer Indergand put 11 points on the board, Brayden Ryan scored 9 points and had 7 rebounds and Seth Culberson pulled down 5 rebounds.
The Ponies, as of this writing, are unbeaten in the Six Rivers East at 7-0 (8-7 overall). They played at Cambridge on January 25th. They will host Black Hawk on January 27th and play at Pecatonica on February 1st.
