The Raiders continued conference play this week with a 3-1 win at home over Lakeside Lutheran on Tuesday, September 13. It was a highly competitive game from the start, with junior Aiden Hatleberg putting two early goals in for Sugar River, but Lakeside Lutheran capitalized off a set piece just before halftime. A solid defensive performance from the Raiders kept the Warriors out for the rest of the second half, and freshman Eli Leonard scored off of a header with seconds remaining to end the game, with the assist coming from an Aiden Hatleberg corner.
Two days later, Sugar River traveled to River Valley for a non-conference match. The Raiders went into halftime 1-0 down after conceding an early goal, but showed an incredible amount of character to fight back to a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Aiden Hatleberg and Eli Leonard. Sophomore goalkeeper Clayton Streiff was key in the comeback with 9 saves, keeping the Raiders' winning streak alive.
The Raiders finished the week victorious with a 3-goal shutout against the Mount Horeb Vikings.
Aiden Hatleberg lasered in a free kick and had a beautiful near post finish before closing the first half. In the second half, junior Jack Leonard put one in from the spot. A strong defensive performance kept the Vikings off the score sheet, including 5 crucial saves from Clayton Streiff. The win was especially meaningful with it being Alumni Night, and the boys received words of inspiration from former Raiders before the game. The Raiders will look to build on their 3-win week and maintain their perfect conference record against Columbus at home on Tuesday, September 20th.
