The Raider wrestling team went 2-1 on Thursday, January 13th, at a Conference Multi in Marshall. Despite having some varsity starters out due to injury and illness, the Raiders put on an impressive showing.
In the first round, the Raiders lost to conference champions Waterloo, 42-30. The Raiders had their chances within this dual, but giving up 24 points in forfeits was too much room to make up. However, the Raiders won the head to head 5-3 in this dual.
In the second round, the Raiders defeated Cambridge. This was a complete team effort, winning this dual 48-30. Still, with the Raiders giving up forfeits, the team won six matches while only losing one match.
In the last round, the Raiders defeated Marshall 45-30. Again, the Raiders wrestled with hustle, effort, and determination to close out the night.
“This was a good night of wrestling,” explained Coach Peter Swenson. “We have wrestlers who are gaining their confidence on the mat and are starting to really come around. Three freshmen that really had good nights going undefeated were Blake Endres (106), Brennan Keyes (126/32), and Riley Weber (182). However, it was a total team effort all night long. We were missing two starters from the line up and that can make a big difference in a dual meet. Slowly, we are getting everyone healthy and will be ready for our run to state.”
The Raiders wrestled at an invitational on January 18th at Verona and will host a dual against Lodi on January 27th.
