<strong>Jacobson Announced as Scholarship Winner</strong>
The Association for Women Lawyers Foundation has announced the recipients of its annual scholarships. This year’s winners are <strong>Alixandra Jacobson</strong>, New Glarus, WI (UW-Madison Law School), Saiba Kapila, New Berlin, WI (Marquette University Law School), Erin Sherman, Madison, WI (UW-Madison Law School), Veronica Sustic, Woodbury, MN (UW-Madison Law School) – Virginia A. Pomeroy Scholarship, Cassandra van Gompel, Green Bay, WI (Marquette University Law School) – Virginia A. Pomeroy Scholarship.
Scholarships have been awarded annually since 1997 to women who are attending a Wisconsin law school and meet criteria that include service to others, academic achievement and unique life experience or circumstance. Additionally, consideration for the Virginia A. Pomeroy Scholarship – which honors the memory of AWL past-president and former Deputy State Public Defender Virginia A. Pomeroy – is given to candidates who emphasize legal service in at least one of the following areas: service to the vulnerable or disadvantaged; civil rights law, appellate practice, public service, public policy or public interest law.
The scholarships were awarded at the AWL Annual Meeting luncheon on Thursday, September 24, at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee. 
The Association for Women Lawyers is a 400-member specialty bar association based in Milwaukee with the purpose of promoting the welfare, interests and professional development of lawyers who are women; promoting the legal interests of women generally; maintaining the honor and integrity of the legal profession; and advancing justice for all individuals. Membership is open to licensed attorneys and students currently enrolled in accredited law schools.
