Sugar River Euchre

The match between the Pipe Benders and Shufflers had some intense moments. The first was when Ross Nesheim and Mike O’Brien broke into a cold sweat after Randy Skogen and Stan Hook made three straight loan hands and recorded the first 12 points in the 4th frame. Mike and Ross were able to chase off the skunk in the 4th hand and they were ecstatic to leave the table with 2 points. In the 7th frame, Wes Parks, holding four trump, found great pleasure in setting Stan, with three trump plus a suit ace and king, called a loaner. Requiring 14 points in their final game to secure the win for the Shufflers, Steve Vogt and Tom Meyer removed Wes and Jerome Krantz from the equation with their 15 to 9 win. By doing so, Steve and Tom finished with 111 points and secured an 8-point victory for the Shufflers.
Also with 111 points, engineers Opie Taylor and Karen Miller laid the tracks for the Express to the finish line, but Harold Schlimgen and Roger Olstad played the equalizers and ripped off 110 feet of track for the Cowboys. By doing so, the match came down to the other six couples. Two of the three couples for the Cowboys surpassed 100 points while none of the remaining Express couples had the power to produce 100 rpms. The Cowboys loaded 21 more cattle into the boxcars than the Express could haul.
Barb Judd and Jeff Goebler did a whole lot of shaking for the Hay Shakers. Losing both their 3rd and 7th games to Pranksters Devon Handel and Corey O’Hearn, Barb and Jeff were still able to stack 110 bales to force the rabbit out of the Prankster’s hat. This was just enough to pull out a 24-point win over the Pranksters.
The biggest margin of victory of the night came in the match between team Uff-Da and the River Rats. Mary and Leo Humphrey collected 113 points for team Uff-Da, while Tom Magnuson and Jim Day seized another 115 points. Tom and Jim’s only loss came in the 2nd frame at the hands of Tracy Funseth and Jack Gehin. River Rats Ernie Sarbacker and Jimmy Gehin had this week’s low score of 76 points.
But now for the match of the night. As several teams are aware, the Trolls have been extremely tough lately. With three couples reaching or exceeding 100 points for the second straight week, not only did they win for the first time this season, but for the first time in team history, a Troll couple took home high score honors. Trolls Jeff Grassman and Kurt Wedig’s only loss came in the 7th frame from Jeff Buesser and Larry Disch. With that, Jeff and Kurt finished with 117 pieces of gold for this week’s high score. Not a single Cheese Eater could even find the rainbow, much less the gold. Hence the Trolls won by 65 points. Looking at the schedule below, I only hope the Trolls cool off by this Thursday.
