“The effort was there from our athletes tonight. On the boys side, we came up short by the smallest of margins as we lost 69-68 to Cambridge,” said Coach Willy Johnson. “It could have gone either way tonight. We have a quick turn around and go to Cambridge for their Invite on Thursday. Ultimately, we want to kids to get healthy in the next couple weeks so we can be finding that success that they are searching for while working so hard at in practice.”
On Thursday, May 20th, the Raiders competed at the Blue Jay Invite in Cambridge. The varsity boys finished in sixth place, while the varsity girls finished in fifth place.
“It was a great night for a meet and the kids showed up to compete. There were many PRs and oh-so-close opportunities. One thing the staff is taking note of is the mental and emotional focus of the athletes, as well as the physical aspect of track and field. We know that these athletes, along with the coaching staff and families, have been through a whirlwind experience going back to last spring,” said Coach Johnson. “As competitive as we may be as a program, we want to make sure that this year’s season is an experience that allows us to have that mental, emotional and physical growth. It sure is fun to watch these kids get after it and allow themselves to have fun doing it. Now we plan for Marshall and the Deerfield Classic next week.”
