Sugar River Raiders Win Regional Championship

The Sugar River Raiders are moving on in the post season tournament after winning their regional last week. After a first-round bye, they faced the Jefferson Eagles on Thursday, October 19th, at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona. The Raiders came out strong and took a 3-0 lead in the first half, with goals scored by Breckyn Thompson off an assist by Eli Leonard and two by Aiden Hatleberg, one of those assisted again by Eli Leonard. The second half would present much of the same, with the Raiders finding the back of the net three more times. Second half goals were scored by Aiden Hatleberg, assisted by Jack Leonard, Eli Leonard off a Tikei Tazeh assist, and Jack Douma putting one in off of a pass from Dylan Brooks. The strong showing defensively and solid goal keeping by Clayton Streiff with 4 saves (and Lucas Meyer with 1) kept the Eagles from scoring and allowed for every Raider on the team to get some solid minutes in the game. The team came away winning 6-0.
The Regional final was held on Saturday, October 22nd, in Mount Horeb against the La Crosse Logan Rangers. As expected, the competition proved a little tougher and it took the Raiders a little longer to find the back of the net. The first half was scoreless for the majority of the 40 minutes. The first goal, however, would go to the Raiders off a penalty kick by Aiden Hatleberg. Aiden would go on to score again in the second half off an assist by Tikei Tazeh, putting the score at 2-0 where it would stay until time expired. Clayton Streiff made 8 saves helping to keep the Rangers scoreless and in turn crowning the Raiders the Regional Champions.
The Raiders advance to Sectionals on Thursday, October 27th, facing an always tough opponent, the McFarland Spartans. Go Raiders!
