Sun Run and Solar Plunge for Special Olympics Wisconsin now just $35

Special Olympics Wisconsin is excited to announce that registration is now just $35 for their new social distancing-friendly Sun Run & Solar Plunge 5K run/walk taking place at Schluter Beach in Monona on June 19.
With a 5K run/walk, kids dash, food and socially distant activities for all to enjoy, Special Olympics Wisconsin’s newest event will have something for everyone. The cost to participate is $35 while teams of four can register for just $120 total - a $20 savings. Children four and under are free.
Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt with registration but they can earn additional Sun Run & Solar Plunge gear like a medal, baseball cap, towel or cooler by raising additional funds to support the athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin.
For those who want to show their support for the athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin in a “cooler” way, the Sun Run & Solar Plunge also includes an optional plunging experience. This also gives people who missed plunging into chilly water this winter due to the COVID-related changes to the Polar Plunge a chance to make up for it.
And, with a virtual 5K run/walk option that can be done from the comfort of their own home, fans will be able to join in the fun and show their support for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes from anywhere.
“After this past year, I think we’re all ready for a great summer. The Sun Run & Solar Plunge is the perfect way to start your summer off right,” said Alyse Peters, Special Olympics Wisconsin’s Director of Development and Special Events. “This family-friendly event is going to have some seriously fun summer vibes. And since it’s for such a great cause in support of many talented and committed Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes, it’s going to be a feel-good event that we all really need right about now.”
Donations raised in the Sun Run & Solar Plunge will support more than 9,000 Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes across the state who compete year-round in 19 Olympic-style sports. The pandemic has canceled many events over the past year but fitness programming and select sports competitions continue to take place in creative, safe and often virtual ways.
Special Olympics Wisconsin also provides critical healthcare to their athletes through its cutting-edge Healthy Athletes programming, while leadership trainings and collaborations with schools around the state help to build positive attitudes toward people with intellectual disabilities and create more inclusive schools and communities.
Special Olympics Wisconsin is proud to partner with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics for the Sun Run & Solar Plunge. Statewide, the Sun Run & Solar Plunge takes place at six locations in 2021.
