Swim Team Competes at Quad

The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team competed at a Quad on August 31st, at McFarland High School. Their competitors included Edgewood, Oregon and McFarland.
“The girls have been working very hard these past few weeks,” said Coach Rachel Root. “They swam two practices a day at the long course meter pool. They continually want to keep improving and push each other at practice. A few swimmers swam very close to their personal best times tonight and it was the first meet of the season. We are very excited to see our swimmers progress and grow as the season goes on.”
The coaches also mentioned several notable performances: Mazie Paradis - 100 fly (1st place), 100 back (3rd place); Karley Michels - 50 breast (1st place), 100 breast (4th place); Riley Hoesly - 50 back (4th place), 100 free (5th place); Delaney Lynch - 50 fly (4th place); 400 Free Relay - Morgan Erstad, Delaney Lynch, Mazie Paradis, Riley Hoesly (3rd place).
The varsity team placed third overall in the meet, while JV also placed third.
<strong>Varsity Results</strong>
The 200Y Medley Relay team of Mazie Paradis, Karley Michels, Riley Hoesly and Morgan Erstad finished 4th in the event, with a time of 1:57.70. Finishing 7th in the event was the team of Keeley Mulligan, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Danika Doll with a time of 2:07.07.
In the 50Y Freestyle, Keeley Mulligan placed 10th with a time of 29.03, while Kristina Foley finished 11th with a time of 31.02 and Danika Doll finished 12th with a time of 31.08.
In the 100Y Breaststroke, Karley Michels finished 4th with a time of 1:15.16, while Elsa Schaefer finished 7th with a time of 1:17.85 and Peyton Yaun finished in 9th place with a time of 1:18.68.
In the 50Y Backstroke, Riley Hoesly finished 4th with a time of 29.94, while Morgan Erstad finished 6th with a time of 30.53, Samantha Schiro finished 10th with a time of 32.47, and Taylor Rufer finished 13th with a time of 34.56.
Delaney Lynch won the 100Y Butterfly event with a time of 30.96, while Mazie Paradis placed 2nd with a time of 59.54.
In the 200Y Freestyle Relay, the team of Delaney Lynch, Keeley Mulligan, Samantha Schiro and Danika Doll finished 4th, with a time of 1:54.19. Placing 6th was the team of Peyton Yaun, Karley Michels, Emma Tran and Kristina Foley, with a time of 2:05.18.
In the 100Y Freestyle, Riley Hoesly placed 5th with a time of 57.55 while Danika Doll finished 11th with a time of 1:09.70.
Karley Michels won the 50Y Breaststroke event with a time of 34.19. Placing 7th was Peyton Yaun with a time of 36.43 and Elsa Schaefer placed 10th with a time of 36.84.
In the 100Y Backstroke event, Mazie Paradis placed 3rd with a time of 58.45, while Morgan Erstad placed 7th with a time of 1:06.16.
In the 50Y Butterfly, Delaney Lynch finished 4th with a time of 29.56, while Samantha Schiro finished 5th with a time of 30.23 and Keeley Mulligan finished 7th with a time of 31.39.
The 400Y Freestyle Relay team of Morgan Erstad, Delaney Lynch, Mazie Paradis and Riley Hoesly finished in 3rd place with a time of 3:55.96.
The team had a meet in Oregon on September 7th. They will attend an invitational at Lodi on September 11th and will host Edgewood on September 14th.
