As the Wildcat Basketball Season Wraps, Students Earn Capitol South All-Conference Honors and More!

Congratulations to the 2021-22 Belleville boys and girls basketball players earning Capitol South All-Conference honors! Callie Smith, Ava Foley, Trevor Syse and Carson Syse received First Team honors and Mickey Stampfl and Andrew Ace received Second Team honors. DeMarcus Conner earned Honorable Mention for the season.
The Belleville boys basketball team had a strong basketball season and when it was all done, their coaches were glad to give out their awards. Gavin Boyum earned the Coaches Award, Caden DeSmet earned the Most Improved award, and Carson Syse and Trevor Syse shared the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honor. Both Carson and Trevor also reached the 1,000-point career scoring milestone. Carson received the additional honor of being selected to play in the WBCA All-star game. Team Captains for the boys this year were Trevor Syse, Carson Syse, Gavin Boyum and Andrew Ace. This was their first conference title since the 1986/87 season!
The Belleville girls basketball team also received individual awards for their incredible season of play. Izzy Gomez, Mikayla Caskey, and Kailey Prochaska were awarded the WBCA 1st Team Award. Lainey Winkers received the team's award for Most Improved Player. Alyssa Caskey was awarded the team's Defensive Player of the Year. Kenna Edge received an award for breaking the school record for making the most 3-pointers in a single game with eight. Ava Foley and Callie Smith were both awarded with the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards as well as Ava being recognized for achieving the 1,000-point career scoring milestone and Callie for breaking the school's all-time leading rebounding record as well as single season rebounding record. Callie Smith broke the all-time career rebounding record with 926 and the single season rebounding record with 355. Ava Foley hit the 1,000-point milestone and finished 4th all-time with 1,109 total points. Mickey Stampfl was awarded this year's Coaches Award which is presented to a senior member of the team who shows exceptional leadership on and off the court. Team Captain medals were also presented to Callie Smith, Ava Foley, Kenna Edge, and Mickey Stampfl. This was their first conference title since 2010/11.
Senior Callie Smith has received the additional honor of being named Honorable Mention for the All-State Division 4 Team. Callie has been selected to play in the WBCA All-star game on June 29th. She will play in Division 4 and for the South team. Games are held at Justagame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, WI. The last Belleville girls basketball team player to achieve this honor was Rachael Heittola in 2019.
