Wildcats Lose to Pointers

On Monday, April 6, the Belleville baseball team traveled to Mineral Point where the Pointers demolished the Wildcats, 12-2.
“We played five very strong innings against a good hitting baseball team. To get what we got out of a freshman pitcher making his first ever varsity appearance was phenomenal and bodes very well for the future. We have to find some depth at the pitching position in order to be in ball games toward the later innings,” stated Head Coach Jon Benash. “Kevin Zimmerman paced the offense with a pair of singles and a stolen base. Cash Hoffman laid down a very timely bunt that led to a run. We are slowly putting some pieces together, and I look forward to getting better with each game that we play.”
McMillan pitched five innings for the Wildcats, amassing one strikeout and walking four. Hoffman walked two players while Derek Baumgartner hurled two outs, walking one.
“The young lefty (McMillan) had the Pointers off balanced all night long, keeping their bats relatively silent while giving up only two earned runs in those five innings of work. McMillan and the defense did a solid job keeping the game at 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning,” Benash explained. “The bullpen had some issues against the Pointers who exploded for eight runs in their half of the sixth ending the game by a score of 12-2.”
Leading hitters for the Wildcats were Zimmerman who was two for three, Nicholas Richter was one for three, Drew Shrader was one for two, and McMillan was one for three with an RBI.
