Seven Events Heading to State Track and Field for the Sugar River Raiders

The Sugar River boys and girls track team qualified for the state meet in seven different events. To qualify for state, the participant(s) must place in the top four at sectionals. This year, the Sugar River track and field team competed in the WIAA Division 2 Track and Field Sectional at Viroqua on Friday, May 29.
In the boys discus throw, junior Landon Zimmerman took third place with a distance of 163-10, earning him a trip to state.
Placing 10th in the girls long jump was junior Madalena Macht at 15-02.50 while teammate, sophomore Grace Schulting, didn't place.
Sophomore Krista Diaz finished first in the girls 100 meter hurdles, dominating the field with a time of 15.54; she will be headed to state as well.
Just shy of moving on to state was senior Colton Boley in the boys 110 meter hurdles, as he placed sixth at 15.90.
Senior Brandon Shemanski took ninth in the boys 100 meter dash with a time of 11.80.
Taking fifth and being just a bit short of state was junior Tyler Gilbertson in the boys 1600 meter run at 4:34.39.
The team of junior Logan Fahey, senior Ashley Clark, Schulting and Macht took eighth place in the girls 4x200 meter relay.
In the boys 4x200 meter relay, the Sugar River team of sophomore Cade Martin, freshman Dalton Fahey, junior Nick Smith and Boley earned fifth place with a time of 1:33.60; this time was just hundredths of a second away from heading to the state meet.
Junior Ryan Dull took 14th in the boys 400 meter dash.
Heading to state is the 4x100 meter relay team of Martin, Smith, senior Ryan Hayes and Shemanski, which finished fourth at 44.44.
Diaz earned fifth place in the girls 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.62 while Boley took first on the boys side with a time of 40.07.
In the girls 200 meter dash, Fahey finished fifth at 27.10.
Taking fifth place in the boys 200 meter dash was Hayes with a time of 23.30, and Martin took 11th place in this event.
Sophomore Noelle Maire finished third in the girls 3200 meter run at 11:25.65.
In the boys high jump, senior Tanner Hofer placed sixth with a height of 6-00.00.
Taking eighth and ninth place in the boys long jump was Shemanski and Hayes with jumps of 19-08.50 and 19-06.00.
Earning a trip to state was Clark in the girls pole vault, with a height of 9-06.00 to take fourth place.
Also heading to state is senior Mike Fink in the boys shot put, where he finished third with a distance of 50-02.25. Teammates senior Jackson McMahan took 12th, and junior Landon Zimmerman took 13th.
Macht was just inches short of going to state, taking fifth in the girls triple jump at 33-09.50.
Overall, the girls finished in eighth place with 34 points while the boys took fourth place with 46 points behind West Salem, Lodi, and Dodgeville-Mineral Point.
Earlier that week on Tuesday, May 26, the Raiders track team participated in the WIAA Division 2 Track and Field Regional in McFarland where the boys won the meet with 151 points and the girls team finished in fourth with 87 points.
Zimmerman won the boys discus throw with a distance of 167-02, and teammates Fink and McMahan took sixth and eighth place.
In the girls high jump, senior Trisha Wiese placed ninth with a height of 4-10.00.
Macht earned third in the girls long jump with a distance of 15-00.25 while Schulting was right behind her with a jump of 14-10.00 and a fourth place finish. Senior Jessica Hutter also competed in this event.
Finishing in ninth place in the girls shot put was junior Daisy Rivera, and teammate, junior Cassie McMillan, took 15th.
The team of senior Sam Barr, senior Bri Roska, junior Lauren O'Connor and Maire earned fifth place in the girls 4x800 meter relay at 10:42.92.
Winning the girls 100 meter hurdles was Diaz at 15.89.
Boley took third in the boys 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.96 while teammate, freshman Cole Myers placed 11th.
In the girls 100 meter dash, freshman Eliza Woods earned 12th place, and behind her in 16th and 17th place were juniors Bridget Craker and Devyn Wieser.
Shemanski won the boys 100 meter dash with a time of 11.90, and Smith took sixth place while junior Cole Martin took ninth.
Gilbertson earned fourth place in the boys 1600 meter run at 4:47.30.
Fahey, Clark, Schulting and Macht finished in second place in the girls 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.37.
The boys team of Cade Martin, Fahey, Smith and Boley placed first in the 4x200 meter relay at 1:34.12.
Sophomore Rebecca Barr took seventh in the girls 400 meter dash.
Hofer finished in second in the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 54.82 followed by Ryan Dull in fourth at 55.82 and junior Lukas Diaz in seventh.
The girls team of Craker, junior Kati Way, Hutter and Woods placed ninth in the girls 4x100 meter relay.
Cade Martin, Smith, Hayes and Shemanski took first in the boys 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.93.
Diaz placed second in the girls 300 meter hurdles at 49.18, and sophomore Ciara Roberts took 10th.
Boley won the boys 300 meter hurdles at 42.08, and Myers placed sixth with a time of 46.43.
In the girls 200 meter dash, Fahey placed fourth at 28.40, and freshman Walela Three-Sticks took 11th and Wieser took 12th.
Hayes won the boys 200 meter dash with a time of 23.80, and Cade Martin was right behind him in fourth place at 24.51; Hofer also ran this event.
Maire placed second in the girls 3200 meter run with a time of 11:30.02.
The girls 4x400 meter relay team of Hutter, Wiese, Roberts and Three-Sticks took fifth at 4:57.28.
Taking sixth in the boys 4x400 meter relay event was Dull, Diaz, junior Eli Rule and Fahey.
Senior Madelline Knox and McMilllan tied for 12th place in the girls discus throw.
Hofer won the boys high jump at a height of 6-00.00.
Shemanski won the boys long jump with a distance of 19-06.50 while Hayes took fourth at 19-00.00.
In the girls pole vault, Clark earned fourth with a height of 8-00.00, and Way placed fifth.
Taking second, third, and fourth in the boys shot put was Fink, Zimmerman, and McMahan with throws of 47-10.50, 47-04.50, and 44-05.00.
Macht won the girls triple jump at 32-05.50, Schulting took sixth at 30-10.50, and Three-Sticks placed 17th.
The team of junior Justin Edge, sophomore Kyle Fredrickson, sophomore Jordan Hosler and freshman Evan Reifert finished sixth in the boys 4x800 meter relay.
Roska placed sixth in the girls 1600 meter run with a time of 5:55.57 while teammate, freshman Abbi Weisberg took 10th.
Fredrickson placed ninth in the boys 3200 meter run, and Edge finished in 14th place.
Sam Barr earned seventh place in the girls 800 meter run; O'Connor also ran this event.
Reifert finished in 13th place in the boys 800 meter run.
