I was watching TV last night and had a sudden realization! We forgot to thank Riley’s Tavern! It was one of our stops. Our people picked up their next clue there and we feel terrible that they did not make it in the original article. We so appreciate when an establishment lets us use their place as a pit stop and regret that we omitted them in last week’s story. I had never been there and was so eager to see this place that has such a legacy. One of the times we stopped there, we ran into some local people sitting on the patio enjoying the beautiful day and a beverage. This is the place that once we came out the door; we had no clue how to get back to civilization quickly, as we were done for the day. It had been a long one, so ready to go and have some supper. My iPhone came in handy and we were very surprised to realize we were just outside of Verona!! We also saw this car along the road, stopped, and realized they were trying to guide a huge turtle off the road so it would not be a casualty when the next unsuspecting vehicle came down the road. That road, Riley/Klevenville Road, is directly next to the bike trail. The terrain is very interesting and was fun for us to see. You know, just in case Barb and I decide to take our bikes out there someday! There was a ravine that seemed like a cool haven after being exposed to the summer sun that would probably be appreciated! I actually drive by this road all the time. I’m originally from Cross Plains, and during Road Rally prep was busy with the cleaning out of my dad’s house as it was sold. They closed the day prior to the rally. It was a push, but it is done.
And worse than that!!!.....I forgot to thank Connie!! Connie is such a huge help to us and Barb had her name down, but I neglected to type it in the thank you article! CONNIE, we could not get through this without you! You being there to register all of our people and help Barb when sending them on their way is invaluable!!! And also, we would have never known what q tree wart was called!!!!!!!! And we loved asking them to find the knur!!! Readers…did you know this was going to be an educational article?
I want to share one other story. The day prior to the rally is the day we plant UFOs and game pieces. There are multiple trips to the ditch! We are in and out of the van, all day, into the night. I think we were out for 10 hours before we were finished! We were so very grateful that the weather was decent; I still remember the snowy road rally, not fun!! But when you have warmer weather, you still have lots of creepy crawly things climbing around. We have this incredible, SUPER FLASHLIGHT that we use. We make sure that nothing is lurking at or near the tree. We got scratched by bushes, stepped in stuff that was yukky and soft, hair was full of leaf debris. But much to my surprise, I came home with hitchhikers! I did not realize it immediately. I don’t hunt, don’t walk in the woods, but grew up in the country so I know about these things but was shocked to find out that ticks came in with me! When I found them, I thought to myself; could we have ticks back by my clothesline? And then I realized where I had been recently! I just wanted to let you all know, they are not a game piece and you will NOT get any points for them!!
Thanks again for all who participated!!!
