Sugar River Euchre

Jones’ Plumbing discovered early on that it was not going to be easy to remain in first place in their battle against the Norsk Cowboys. The match was tied at 396, with all the scores recorded in the eighth round except the game between Greg Stutz/Chris Booth (Pipe-Benders) and Ferdie Schmitz/Tracy Thronson (Cowboys). After several hours of euchre, it all boiled down to who could win the last game. It was Greg and Chris who pulled out a 15 to 12 victory, giving the Pipe-Benders the win and a first place slot in the standings. To no avail, Mike Pickett and Jerry Rotar put up a valiant effort for the Cowboys, recording 110 points.
After their disappointing loss last week, Shenanigans weren’t leaving anything on the table in their match against the Screaming Eagles. The Pranksters won this one by 21, keeping them in the hunt, just one game back with just two weeks left to play in the second half.
The match between Monte’s and the Hooterville-Express produced both the high and low scores this week. Bruce Milestone and Leo Humphrey could only hunt down 72 points for the Mounties while Tracy Haag and Steve Thoni shoveled in 119 points for the Express. Plus, a couple from each team narrowly avoided getting skunked. Shawn Farrell and John Scheidegger (Express) and Tom Magnuson and Curt Herfel (Mounties) breathed a big sigh of relief after scoring just 1-point in one of their games. Thank your lucky stars, no skunk card this week boys. By the end of the evening, the Express steamed into the station with a 67-point win. Also, in the match between New Glarus and Kleeman’s, Jeff Buesser and Kendal Wenger (Cheese-Eaters) escaped a skunk posting just 1-point in the third round. Kleeman’s took an early 27-point lead and hung on to win by 24.
With the Hooterville-Shufflers down 8 after seven rounds, the last round was critical for both the Shufflers and the River-Rats. Dave Herfel and Frank Schwenn recorded a goose egg in their game against Honker (Dan Palmer) and Jim Gehin (J&M Bar). Just like that, the Shufflers found themselves down by 23. Then Derek Skogen/Steve Vogt (114 points) and Randy Skogen/Dewey Haag won their games, racking up 21 points for the Shufflers. Now the Rats find themselves up by just 2. However, Mark Raders and Tracy Beutel added 116 points to the Rats total after winning their last game by 4. Rats win this one by 6.
