Beekeeping Workshop

Join Dan Ziehli, Wisconsin State Bee Inspector, and the Sugar River Beekeepers for a FREE hands-on Beekeeping Basics workshop at the New Glarus High School Auditorium on Saturday, February 3. Sponsored by the Town of New Glarus Parks Commission, this is the first of three workshops about our all-important pollinator, the Honey Bee. During this session, you will learn:
Honey bee hive types and which is best suited to your hobby
Questions to ask when purchasing honey bees and equipment
Current beekeeping laws
Proper queen installation
Honey bee pest and disease identification
In addition, you will participate in these hands-on learning exercises:
Honey bee package installation
Nuc (small honey bee colony) installation
Frame construction
Mixing honey bee feeds
Proper bee medications and placement
Capital Supply Co. will be present with a display of beehive kits and beekeeping supplies.
Please join us on Saturday, February 3, 2018, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., in the New Glarus High School Auditorium, 1701 2nd Street. This workshop is free to attend, but you must bring your own lunch.

The next two workshops will be held in June 2018 (On-Farm Visit) and Fall 2018 (Preparing Your Bees for Winter). Folks can attend as many workshops as they like and attendees will receive announcements of future ones. Upon completion of these workshops, attendees should feel confident to be successful and sustainable beekeepers, regardless of weather, using organic or non-organic beekeeping methods.
