Sugar River Special Olympics

The Sugar River Special Olympics bowling team has been busy. This summer, Krista Hinckley was chosen to be a member of the Wisconsin USA Games bowling team, attending the USA Games in Seattle, Washington, during the month of July. Krista was one of more than 4,000 athletes who participated in a variety of athletic events. Krista competed in the following bowling events: singles, doubles and team. She was awarded a silver medal in her doubles event, a bronze medal for her singles event and placed 4th with her team bowling event.
Krista returned to this year's bowling season energized and excited to teach her teammates and coaches what she learned! This year she competed with two other Sugar River athletes in the Regional Bowling Tournament in Madison, WI, on Saturday, November 3rd. Krista placed first, along with newcomer to the team, Ariana McDermott. Tristan Rondou also competed, placing 4th in his division. With their first place finishes, Krista and Ariana moved on to the State Bowling Tournament held on November 10th, in Madison WI. Krista and Ariana were fierce competitors, each taking home a gold medal for their team!
The success of these athletes depends on community volunteers and support. Without the generous support of Mark Schwoegler and Sugar River Lanes, we would not have a facility to practice at. Without our volunteers and coaches, Kay Zimmerman, Kaetha Paynter, Barb Hinckley and Melissa Whitmore, the Sugar River Special Olympics team would not exist.
The Sugar River Special Olympics team would like to expand the sports we offer to include basketball and snowshoeing. In order to do that we are in need of coaches, volunteers and athletes.
