Knights Lose to Blue Jays

The NGM Football team was hoping to win back to back games as they played the Cambridge Blue Jays for Homecoming. However, the reigning champions of the Capitol South would have none of it. Despite the rainy weather and a lightning delay, the Blue Jays were firing on all cylinders.
The game started with both teams exchanging possessions without scoring. All that changed with a Cambridge interception for a touchdown, and the Knights were down 7-0. NGM was unable to move the ball and was forced to punt. The punt was returned deep into NGM territory, which led to another score and early in the second quarter, NGM was down 14-0.
NGM marched deep into Cambridge territory on a pass from Mason Martinson to Josh Wieser. Martinson followed with a pass to Nathan Streiff that took the Knights deep into Cambridge territory. The Knights, however, could not capitalize and were forced to turn the ball over on downs. The Blue Jays responded with a 97-yard touchdown drive to build a 21-0 lead.
The Knights responded with a score which was set up on two passes to Nathan Streiff. One of them, a sideline toe tapper, took the Knights inside the 5-yard line of Cambridge. Connor Siegenthaler was able to muscle in for a touchdown and the Knights trailed 21-7 at the half.
In the second half, the teams traded possessions without scoring and Cambridge whittled away at the clock. The Blue Jays finally punched in a score in the fourth quarter to seal the victory and a 28-7 loss for the Knights.
Nathan Streiff led the Knights with four catches for 101 yards. Josh Wieser added three catches for 49 yards.
Next week, NGM travels to Princeton to take on the Montello/Green Lake/Princeton Phoenix.
