Monroe-New Glarus Swim Team Competes at Edgewood

The Monroe-New Glarus swim team competed at Edgewood on September 24th. The JV team won, 81-37, while the Varsity team lost 64-106.
“The team had a solid meet against a very strong competitor. We are right on track for where we would like to be at this point,” said Coach Kendra Kalvin. “Strong swims included Elsa Schaefer breaking a JV record in the 100 Breaststroke. Karley Michels went a personal best in Meters in the 100 Breast and Morgan Erstad had an impressive race in the 200 Free.”

In the 200SC Meter Medley relay event, the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Francesca Schiro finished 2nd with a time of 2:10.56. Finishing 4th was the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Anna Newcomer, Samantha Schiro and Peyton Yaun with a time of 2:19.98.
Morgan Erstad won the 200SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:14.56, while Alyssa Roelli finished 4th with a time of 2:23.04 and Taylor Rufer finished 6th with a time of 2:44.59.
In the 200 SC Meter IM, Mekenzie Hammer placed 2nd with a time of 2:30.86, while Anna Newcomer finished 3rd with a time of 2:42.24 and Karley Michels finished 6th with a time of 2:54.34.
In the 50SC Meter Freestyle, Kendra Wenger finished 4th with a time of 30.66, Samantha Schiro finished 5th with a time of 31.64 and Payton Yaun finished 6th with a time of 32.50.
In the 100SC Meter Butterfly, Mekenzie Hammer swam to a 2nd place finish with a time of 1:08.95 while Alyssa Roelli finished 3rd with a time of 1:11.03 while Samantha Schiro finished 6th with a time of 1:18.59.
In the 100SC Meter Freestyle, Francesca Schiro finished 2nd with a time of 1:03.37, Kendra Wenger finished 3rd with a time of 1:07.10 and Peyton Yaun finished 6th with a time of 1:14.69.
In the 400 SC Meter Freestyle, Morgan Erstad finished 3rd with a time of 4:50.26, Kaitlyn Elgin finished 4th with a time of 5:12.29 and Elsa Schaefer finished 6th with a time of 5:41.13.
In the 200SC Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Morgan Erstad, Samantha Schiro, Alyssa Roelli and Kendra Wenger finished 2nd with a time of 2:00.99 while the team of Laurel Houston, Peyton Yaun, Karley Michels and Dee Delforge finished 4th with a time of 2:12.42.
In the 100SC Meter Backstroke, Kaitlyn Elgin finished 3rd with a time of 1:15.73 while Taylor Rufer placed 5th with a time of 1:23.11.
Karley Michels won the 100SC Meter Breaststroke with a time of 1:19.65, while Francesca Schiro placed 3rd with a time of 1:23.97 and Anna Newcomer finished 4th with a time of 1:24.02.
In the 400SC Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Francesca Schiro, Kendra Wenger and Morgan Erstad finished 2nd with a time of 4:22.41 while the team of Kaitlyn Elgin, Anna Newcomer, Laurel Houston and Dee Delforge finished 4th with a time of 4:55.91.
The team swam at Stoughton on October 1st and then host Oregon on October 15th.
