On May 8th, the Belleville softball team hosted Waterloo for a double header of two 5 inning games that was rescheduled from April. Belleville won game one, 9-2. The Wildcats struck early and often in the 1st inning, scoring 7 runs off of two pitchers. In the bottom of the 2nd, Waterloo sent in their third pitcher, the Wildcats greeting her with two more runs.

Jillian Michaels and Bailey Legler had the two lone hits of the game and Maddie Weber was the only player that didn't score a run.

Cassidy Heller pitched the entire game, facing 17 batters, giving up 2 hits and striking out 3. No walks. "The defense made the plays behind her," explained Coach Connie Wunschel.

In game two of the double header, Waterloo won 5-3. Belleville's troubles connecting with the ball carried over, but they did manage six hits.

"We struck out six times," said Wunschel. "And at very inopportune times. We are still so very young at some vital positions and we will learn to be better about these things."

Cassidy Heller was 1x3 at bat, with one run scored (one double), and Jillian Michaels was 2x3 at bat with one run scored, two stolen bases, one home run and 2 RBIs.

Maddie Weber pitched the entirety of game two, scattering 8 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5.

On May 15th, the Wildcats hosted Cambridge and shut them out, 11-0. Belleville scored five runs in the 1st, two in the 2nd, three in the 3rd and one last run in the 4th. Bailey Legler achieved the first grand slam homerun of her high school career.

Cassidy Heller, the team's only senior, was 1x3 at bat with two runs scored, and she stole one base. Kori Rogers was 1x2 with three runs scored, while Jillian Michaels was 0x1 and scored three runs, Maddie Weber was 3x3 at bat with two runs scored, one double and 2 RBIs, Ella Campbell was 1x2 at bat with a double and 2 RBIs.

"Bailey Legler had an awesome night," said Coach Connie Wunschel. "A career night- 2x3, one run scored, one double, and one grand slam home run and 7 RBI!"

Cassidy Heller starting as pitchers, facing 15 and striking out 7. Maddie Weber took over at the top of the 5th inning, facing 5 and striking out 1.

On May 17th, Belleville played at Wisconsin Heights and lost, 3-8. According to Coach Wunschel, the game was tight until the bottom of the 5th when Heights put together a string of hits that plated four runs to open the game.

Cassidy Heller was 2x3 with one run scored and one stolen base while Bailey Legler was 1x3 with one run scored and one RBI, Ella Campbell was 1x3 and Abby Winterburn was 1x3.

Cassidy Heller pitched the entire game, striking out one.

On May 18th, the team hosted Marshall and lost a tough one, 2-7. "Everything was going really well up until the 5th inning, at which time the score was 1-1!" said Coach Wunschel. "We keep running ourselves off the bases, and this time our errors (4) came at the worst times."

Marshall took the lead by the bottom of the 5th, 3-1, and tacked on three more runs in the 6th and another in the 7th.

Cassidy Heller was 2x3 with 1 RBI, Bailey Legler was 1x3 with 1 RBI and one double, Ella Campbell was 2x3 with one double and Abby Winterburn was 2x3 with one run scored.

"We had seven hits, and these young ladies were the hitters in this game," said Wunschel. "Abby has been really doing well as of late, as well as Ella. I'm hoping they can keep it up come tournament game time!"

Cassidy Heller pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out 2. Maddie Weber relieved her for the final 2/3 inning and faced 3 batters.

Belleville, who has been seeded #5 for the Division 4 Tournament, played at #4 Cuba City on May 23rd. The winner of that game will play the winner of the game in Mineral Point on May 25th. #1 Mineral Point will play the winner of the #9 Darlington and #8 Benton/Shullsburg game.
