Swimmers Win Lodi Invite

The Monroe-New Glarus swim team competed against Watertown on September 4th. The JV team won 78-35 and the Varsity team won 121.50-48.50.

“The girls swam with determination even though most of them did not swim in their strongest events. Tonight showed that they can compete in strokes that are not necessarily their strongest stroke,” said Coach Linda Moser. “It was great to see the versatility this team has and I think the girls recognized it too. We will build on what we learned from tonight and keep getting stronger as a team.”

Winning the 200 Meter Medley Relay was the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Peyton Yaun and Cammi Ganshert with a time of 2:17.63. Anna Newcomer, Elsa Schaefer, Kaitlyn Elgin and Morgan Erstad placed third with a time of 2:26.74, while Kayleigh Nesbitt, Samantha Schiro, Emily Meritt and Laurel Houston placed fourth with a time of 2:36.77.

Alyssa Roelli won the 200 Meter Freestyle event, with a time of 2:23.91. Kendra Wenger finished second in the event with a time of 2:33.18 and Anna Newcomer placed third with a time of 2:33.82.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 200 Meter IM with a time of 2:32.96. Placing third was Kaitlyn Elgin with a time of 2:48.10 and Elsa Schaefer placed fourth with a time of 2:57.21.

Cammi Ganshert won the 50 Meter Freestyle event in a time of 30.06. Karley Michels placed third with a time of 31.99 and Emily Meritt placed fifth with a time of 34.62.

In the 100 Meter Butterfly, Peyton Yaun placed second with a time of 1:22.61, Samantha Schiro placed third with a time of 1:29.04 and Kayleigh Nesbitt placed fourth with a time of 1:33.30.

In the 100 Meter Freestyle, Alyssa Roelli finished second with a time of 1:03.95, Kendra Wenger placed third with a time of 1:10.32, and Laurel Houston placed fifth with a time of 1:12.70.

Morgan Erstad won the 400 Meter Freestyle event with a time of 4:53.71. Kaitlyn Elgin placed second with a time of 5:19.42 and Anna Newcomer placed third with a time of 5:26.16.

The team of Alyssa Roelli, Peyton Yaun, Cammi Ganshert and Mekenzie Hammer won the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay with a time of 2:02.80. Second place finishers were Samantha Schiro, Laurel Houston, Karley Michels and Kendra Wenger with a time of 2:09.19 and Elsa Schaefer, Dee Delforge, Tatiana Bobrowicz and Emily Meritt finished fourth with a time of 2:18.77.

Morgan Erstad won the 100 Meter Backstroke in a time of 1:10.02. Taylor Rufer tied for second place with a Watertown swimmer with a time of 1:25.50, and Kayleigh Nesbitt placed fifth with a time of 1:29.28.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 100 Meter Breaststroke with a time of 1:20.43. Placing second was Peyton Yaun with a time of 1:28.67 and Elsa Schaefer placed third with a time of 1:31.79.

The 400 Meter Freestyle Relay was won by the team of Alyssa Roelli, Karley Michels, Cammi Ganshert and Morgan Erstad in a time of 4:29.45. The second place finishing team was Kendra Wenger, Emily Meritt, Kaitlyn Elgin and Anna Newcomer, with a time of 4:42.33.

The team competed in Lodi at an invitational on Saturday, September 8th.

“The girls were focused and ready for Saturday. They won the invite with 340 points. This is the second year in a row they have won the Lodi Invitational. There were eight teams there, including Monroe/New Glarus,” said Moser. “As a team they placed in the top five in all but one event. The girls had three 1st place finishes: Mekenzie Hammer won the 200 IM with a PR time for the season of 2:16.04; Karley Michels in the 100 Breast with a PR time of 1:15.58 and the Medley Relay team consisting of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Cammi Ganshert with a time of 1:57.98.”

As Coach Moser stated, a Monroe-New Glarus team won the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team of Nina Schiro, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Morgan Erstad placed fifth in the event, with a time of 2:04.52.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle event, Anna Newcomer placed sixth with a time of 2:13.91, Alyssa Roelli placed seventh with a time of 2:14.38 and Kendra Wenger placed ninth with a time of 2:18.39.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:16.04. Kaitlyn Elgin placed seventh with a time of 2:32.95 and Peyton Yaun placed eleventh with a time of 2:41.04.

In the 50 Yard Freestyle event, Francesca Schiro placed third with a time of 26.66 while Cammi Ganshert placed sixth with a time of 27.58 and Laurel Houston placed eleventh with a time of 28.83.

In the 100 Yard Butterfly event, Alyssa Roelli placed third with a time of 1:07.11 while Samantha Schiro placed twelfth with a time of 1:14.04 and Kayleigh Nesbitt placed seventeenth with a time of 1:24.05.

In the 100 Yard Freestyle event, Francesca Schiro placed third with a time of 57.91 while Cammi Ganshert placed seventh with a time of 1:01.78 and Kendra Wenger placed tenth with a time of 1:02.78.

Morgan Erstad finished in second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:35.58, Nina Schiro placed fifth with a time of 5:50.97 and Kaitlyn Elgin placed seventh with a time of 6:03.32.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Kendra Wenger, Alyssa Roelli and Francesca Schiro placed third with a time of 1:47.35. Placing seventh was the team of Karley Michels, Laurel Houston, Samantha Schiro and Anna Newcomer with a time of 1:55.43.

Mekenzie Hammer finished second in the 100 Yard Backstroke event, with a time of 1:00.96. Morgan Erstad placed third with a time of 1:03.64.

Karley Michels won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:15.58. Peyton Yaun finished third with a time of 1:18.42, Anna Newcomer finished fourth with a time of 1:19.86 and Elsa Schaefer finished sixth with a time of 1:21.46.

The team consisting of Morgan Erstad, Cammi Ganshert, Nina Schiro and Francesca Schiro placed second in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:52.54. Kendra Wenger, Kaitlyn Elgin, Laurel Houston and Anna Newcomer placed sixth with a time of 4:13.74.

The team swam at Edgewood on September 11th, and will host Stoughton at 6:00 p.m., on September 18th at the Monroe YMCA.
