Wine Walk to Benefit Chalet of the Golden Fleece

October 4, 2018

Thursday, October 11th, is the date for Mr. Barlow’s Wine Walk. This fundraising event is sponsored by the Friends of the Chalet in partnership with New Glarus Vision. Tickets for the walk are available at EventBrite,, or follow the link on the Chalet of the Golden Fleece’s Facebook page. The $25.00 ticket includes an opportunity to browse the museum’s collection, a wine glass created for the event, wrist band and map of participating retailers, door prizes and discount coupons for future visits to the Museum. The 14 participating businesses will be serving wine and snacks during the evening.

The Chalet houses a predominately Swiss collection, but also houses items from all over the world. Pieces in the museum feature import events in Swiss history such as the signing of the Perpetual Covenant, a wood carving of the Lion of Lucerne and, of course, Wilhelm Tell makes several appearances. Edwin Barlow was the inspiration behind the play and its original director. Swiss Mountain life is depicted through the alphorn, herdsman salt bag and cheese carrier. There are many examples of Swiss craftsmanship on display as well. Items in the collection date back to 600 B.C. into the 1950’s. Sandy Blum, Chairman of the Friends, states, “Funds generated by the wine walk will help us make sure this collection and the Chalet itself can be enjoyed by future generations.”

The museum will open at 4:30 p.m. that night so walkers can enjoy the collection. Registration is from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Be sure to sign up for door prizes when you register. Advanced tickets purchases are highly recommended. Ticket availability on the night of the event is not guaranteed as there is a limited number available for purchase.
