Monroe Clinic Releases Immunization Schedule

October 11, 2018

Everyone six months and older should receive the flu shot. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people get vaccinated by the end of October, if possible. The flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, missed work, and missed school due to the flu. Plus it helps prevent flu-related hospitalizations. Monroe Clinic offers flu clinics starting October 3rd and ending in December.

Monroe Clinic flu clinics are available throughout the area – including your local branch clinic. Wisconsin locations include Albany, Brodhead, New Glarus, and Monroe. Illinois locations include Durand, Lena, Freeport Clinic and Freeport Urgent Care, with convenient after-hour weekday and weekend hours.

Flu shots are approved for people who are pregnant and people with chronic health conditions. The high-dose influenza vaccine, Fluzone High-Dose, is specifically for people 65 years and older. Studies have shown the vaccine offers older adults a better immune response, and better protection against flu.

The cost for the regular flu shot is $36.00 and the high dose is $87.00. Vaccinations are typically covered by insurance, Medicare or Medical Assistance. Individuals are encouraged to wear a shirt with sleeves that easily roll up, or short sleeves. For convenience, participants can request billing be submitted to their insurance company.

The flu season starts in October and can last through May. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at http://www.cdc.gov/flu for complete vaccine guidelines and recommendations. Contact your Monroe Clinic primary care provider with further questions.
