Two Raider Wrestlers Headed to State

February 21, 2019

Danny Enloe

For the first time in five years, more than one Sugar River wrestler has qualified for the WIAA Individual State wrestling tournament. Both Joe Quaglia and Danny Enloe will wrestle Thursday, February 21st, at the Kohl Center in Madison. Wrestling starts at 7:00 p.m.

Joe Quaglia

"Both wrestlers had tremendous tournaments, making the finals in their weight classes. Joe, now a 2x state qualifier, beat the #8 ranked guy in the first round and then won a very close match 8-6 in the semi-finals, getting a reversal in the last 5 seconds of the match. Danny pinned his way into the finals. First beat pulled out a pin in the last period against the #6 ranked wrestler and then scored a first period pin in the semi-finals," said Coach Pete Swenson. "I am very happy for both of them to continue their season for one more week. I have no doubt that they have the chance to make the top 8 this weekend."

Swenson continued, "All four wrestlers who qualified for sectionals represented the Raiders in the highest respects. Both Robert Chenoweth and Jack Diederich wrestled some very tough opponents, but they left everything they had on the mat. To find the silver lining, both wrestlers lost to guys who qualified for state, so they had some high quality opponents. Both had great seasons! The team will miss Jack's leadership and amount of team points he scored. I am very excited for Robbie and the next season. He had many gains this season, winning three tournaments. I know with his work ethic and determination he will find himself at the Kohl Center next season."
