Monticello Schools Community Day of Service 2019

May 9, 2019

Monticello Schools' annual Community Day of Service was held on April 26th. Students in grades 4K-12 participated in a variety of service projects. Some of these activities including roadside and bike trail trash pick-up, assisting the Monticello Lions Club in cleaning the park shelter, painting village hall, cleaning at the Monticello Public Library, yard work at the Montesian Gardens, outside work at the Green County Humane Society, clean up at Marshall Bluff Bow Hunters, and helping the DNR to restock fish in local streams.

In addition, several local community members received assistance from our students with a variety of clean-up jobs and some spring sprucing up was done at school including freshening up our flower beds and garden and giving our playground some fresh mulch. Elementary students were busy collecting teddy bears for local law and fire departments and books for the American Family Children's Hospital, spreading kindness by baking cookies for care packages and making kindness rocks that you may find throughout Monticello, playing Bingo at Monroe assisted living facilities, and reading stories to future Monticello students at local daycares.

A Penny War benefiting Green Cares Food Pantry was also held in conjunction with our Day of Service, with a total of $405 being raised.

Special thanks goes out to Greenwoods State Bank for sponsoring our service day t-shirts worn by all students and staff.
