Heidi Festival to be held June 28-30

June 20, 2019

Since 1965, actors from New Glarus and the surrounding communities have presented Johanna Spyri’s classic children’s drama, Heidi, for thousands of people over the years. The beloved story of the orphan child Heidi and her gruff (but good-hearted) Alm Uncle will play out on the stage in the air-conditioned New Glarus High School Auditorium, located at 1701 2nd Street, during Heidi Fest Weekend. Shows are at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28th; 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29th; and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30th. Ticket prices are $8.00 for adults, children 5-12 are $6.00 and children 4 years of age and under may attend for free.

Heidi has something for everyone and this timeless classic will entertain you, even if you already know the story by heart. To add to the charm, live goats and kittens are used during the production (often stealing every scene they’re in!). The Kinderchor will be performing on Saturday during intermission.

All proceeds from Heidi go towards youth scholarships.

And before you attend the Heidi play on Saturday, you can enjoy the Heidi Family Fun and Market, which will be held at the New Glarus Town Hall parking lot at 26 5th Avenue.

Family Fun includes kids activities, including a Heidi story time with the New Glarus Public Library, bubbles, crafts, Scherenschnitte with Linda, Yoga with Kids and the Green County Humane Society will be there with some pets for the kids to love on (and maybe someone will find a new friend to take home) and much more! Family Fun will take place from 9:00 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

The Market, which takes place from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. (will possibly stay open later depending on traffic and weather), will have many craft vendors, from wood carvers to painters to jewelry and too many more to list, Beeville and a children’s book author who will be doing a book reading.
