Monticello's June Blood Drive a Success

August 8, 2019

Dear Editor,

This is a heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful people that made the Red Cross blood drive in Monticello a huge success. The drive was held on Friday afternoon, the 28th of June, at the Zwingli Church. We were off to a busy start at Noon, and the Red Cross staff was kind enough to set up an extra bed so that there was not an excessive wait. Blood donors from Monticello and the surrounding area came to donate. There were many of our dear friends from New Glarus and Monroe and Albany areas too - some new pals and some old acquaintances.

The Bernet family had the largest number of family members at the drive, but they are often the leaders in that area. We had one new donor who attended with his parent and one person who had not donated in years. The list of people helping others continues to grow! The final tally was: 48 donors giving 49 units and up to 147 lives saved. Great numbers for an afternoon of work!

Along with the accolades to donors, we would like to thank the following groups who donated food for our fine canteen: Colony Brands, Zwingli Church Ruth Circle, Monticello Lioness Club, and the Green County Ag Chest. A special thanks to Roger and Karen Brugger for the ice cream sundaes for June Dairy Month. Thank you to Rosemary Avery and Lucille Elmer for keeping the cheese and sausage and cookie plates full. And, as always, thanks to Culver’s of New Glarus for their “Pint for a Pint” coupons.

The Monticello Lions and students from Monticello High School helped with set up and tear down of the Red Cross equipment, tables, and chairs.

Many thanks to everyone and we hope that you have a healthy and safe 2019. Hope to see you all again in October!

Kind Regards,

The Monticello Red Cross Blood Drive Committee
