Wildcats Defeat Bulldogs
September 19, 2019
The Belleville Wildcats moved to 3-1 on Friday with a win over visiting Pardeeville. The game was a defensive struggle as both teams had a hard time getting any sort of offensive momentum going.
Pardeeville opened the scoring in the second quarter via a 38-yard TD run by Derek Lindert. The Wildcat offense was shut out in the first half and their lone scoring play came on a Bulldog safety, which had the score 6-2 going into halftime.
The second half was more of the same. The Wildcats added a Matteo Latorre field goal in the 3rd to make the score 5-6 going into the final frame. With no timeouts and less than 3 minutes remaining, the Wildcats were able to go 70 yards, capped by a JJ Wenger to Sean Hagen 19-yard TD strike, to take the lead with 19.7 seconds remaining. On the game’s final play, Belleville’s Josh Grebel stripped Pardeeville quarterback Nick Burns and Chase Messner fell on the ball for the Wildcats, sealing the win. The final score was Belleville 11, Pardeeville 6.
Wenger finished 15-25 for 151 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Sawyer Fahey added 94 on the ground on 21 carries.
The Wildcats (3-1) look to keep their three-game winning streak alive this Friday night when they welcome Waterloo (0-4). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
