Lady Knights Receive #9 Seed

Tuesday night the Knights traveled to Marshall for the 3rd showdown of the season. Marshall had just knocked off the Knights on Saturday at the Rio Tournament in the championship round.

The Knights came into the evening with the will to find a win. During the first set the Knights jumped out to a quick lead, only to plateau and let the score slip away with a 17-25 loss. The second set was much the same, with a 16-25 finish. Game three was all Knights. The girls hit their groove defensively, as well as at the net, winning 25-22.

The win catapulted the Knights into a 4th set win (25-20) and 5th deciding set. Marshall was paralyzed by the Knights serving and front row in the short set to 15. The Cardinals used both timeouts before they had even reached 5 points on the board. The Knights didn't slow the roll, and went on to a 15-5 win.

Alexah Mellenberger (junior, outside hitter) had 16 kills, while Lily Himmelmann (senior, middle hitter) had 11 kills, Emma Marty (sophomore, right side hitter) had 7 kills and Lola Gillaspie (senior, middle hitter) had 5 kills. Grace Nommensen (freshman, setter) had 38 assists, 5 blocks, 4 kills. Brooke Watrud (senior, Libero) had 10 digs while Jada Malaise (senior, defensive specialist) had 6 digs.

On October 10th the Knights hosted Parkview, defeating them 3-0: 25-15, 25-20, 25-20.

Lily Himmelman (senior, middle hitter) had 8 kills, while Lola Gillaspie (senior, middle hitter) had 7, Emma Marty (sophomore, right side hitter) had 6 and Alexah Mellenberger (junior, Outside hitter) had 5. Lily Himmelman and Lola Gillaspie had 2 blocks each. Lola Gillaspie had 8 aces while Alexah Mellenberger had 3 and Zoe Moen had 2. Grace Nommensen (freshman, setter) had 21 assists. Ellie Eichelkraut (sophomore, outside hitter), Alexah Mellenberger, Brooke Watrud (senior, libero) all had 5 digs.

The team played at Waterloo on October 15th and will play at Cambridge on October 17th. They have the #9 for the WIAA tournament and will play #8 seeded Deerfield on October 22nd.
