WDVA Announces 2019 Woman Veteran of the Year

Monticello Native "Gundy" Metz's service continues after 20 years on active duty

Monticello native Gundel "Gundy" Metz (center) shown here with Gov. Tony Evers (left) and Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary Mary Kolar (right). Metz was recently named the 2019 Woman Veteran of the Year by the WDVA.

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) today announced that decorated U.S. Army veteran Gundel "Gundy" Metz was named its 2019 Woman Veteran of the Year.

Metz, a Madison resident, served on active duty in the Army for two decades (1975-1995), receiving numerous decorations, certificates, and accolades for her military service. Upon Metz's retirement from the Army, she shifted toward a career in serving veterans in her community.
