Victim Identified in Fatal UTV Crash

At approximately 1:48 p.m., on Saturday, December 7th, Deputies, Blanchardville EMS, and the Blanchardville Fire Department responded to private property in the W8800 block of STH 39, in the Town of York, for a report of a crash with injuries involving a UTV (utility terrain vehicle).
Investigation discovered that an adult subject was operating a UTV while on private property, at a low speed while traveling on a steep embankment. At this time, the UTV overturned, causing the driver to be partially ejected. The driver then became trapped underneath the UTV. The driver sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Green County Coroner’s Office. The driver was not wearing a helmet. An adult passenger was riding in the UTV at the time of the crash. The adult passenger was not injured in the crash. The UTV did not sustain any damage and was removed from the scene. The UTV was not equipped with seatbelts. The victim has been identified as David J. Laurent, 69, rural Blanchardville.
The Green County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, the Green County Coroner’s Office, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources all responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The New Glarus Police Department also assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
