Celebrations at the New Glarus Home
December 19, 2019
The goodness and love that abide in the hearts of so many of you was again evident this weekend at the New Glarus Home when the Activities Department of Sheila, Glenene, Heather and Kathy invited family members to come and enjoy some Christmas cheer and good homemade food with the residents.
A good time was enjoyed by one and all.
Thanks to all you folks that had previously taken an envelope off the Giving Tree so that every resident was the recipient of a big package of lovely, useful items delivered by Santa.
Thanks also to all you individuals and local businesses that had donated to our Resident Shopping Spree so that all residents were able to go shopping for gifts for their loved ones. The Resident Shopping Spree was started in 2003 by Sarah Dittmer and Dolores Winden, employees of the Activity Department at that time.
This has been a tremendous success ever since.
When you are a resident in a nursing home, you have no funds, nor way of going shopping, yet we have loved ones we want to give something to. This year, 231 gifts were picked out from our shopping area and residents all had a wrapped gift to hand their loved ones.
To wrap up and bag 231 packages takes lots of wrapping paper materials and bags to do so, so remember us with your Christmas bags (used is fine) and drop them off any time throughout the year, along with any items you may have for next year’s shopping spree.
Thank you for remembering us and next year, when the party rolls around again, try to find time to come and spend an hour or two with your loved one to help spread the holiday cheer.
