2019 Year in Review - Monticello

On July 22nd and 23rd, members from the Monticello FFA Chapter competed in two different soils judging contests in attempt to qualify for the National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma next May. The team of Sarah Brokopp, Hannah Clark, Alyssa Holcomb, Natalie Roe, Harley Disch placed 3rd.
The 2019 Green County Land Judging Contest was held Monday, July 22, at the Gough-Bader farm, located about three miles northwest of Monroe. Those participating were FFA students from Blackhawk, Cassville, Cuba City, Lake Mills, Lancaster, Monticello, Potosi, and Shullsburg.
The results were as follows: Top Individual was Tatum Baumgartner of Blackhawk, second place went to Natalie Roe of Monticello. In team results, Cassville placed first, Blackhawk second, Monticello third, Lancaster fourth, and Potosi fifth.
On Saturday, August 24, 2019, from 4:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m., the members of One Achord singing group performed as part of the 2nd Annual Zwingli Brotherhood Steak Fry.
On Monday, August 26, 2019, at 530 p.m., a very special community dinner sponsored by Zwingli United Church of Christ and community members began. The last Monday afternoon of each month, volunteers gather, cook and contribute to a dinner. This dinner is offered free to everyone.
Monticello Lion 1st Vice President Linn Lederman presented fully filled backpacks for students from pre-kindergarten to 7th grade to Monticello 5-year-old Kindergarten teacher Angela Richter and 4th Grade teacher Brenda DiChristina. September
New faces this year at Monticello School District included Mrs. Lori Brokopp, Elementary School Counselor; and Ms. Mackenzie Sarbacker, MS/HS Special Education Para-professional, Ms. Molly Delwiche, Middle School Science; Mrs. Debra Freitag, Middle School Social Studies; Ms. Abby Alt, Director of Pupil Services; and Mr. Dustin More, High School Special Education.
Saturday, September 14, 2019, was a beautiful day to enjoy the TJ Disch Memorial Fall Colors Cruise. Organizers said that over 90 people came out to enjoy the fun and to raise money for the Monticello Fire Department’s TJ Disch Scholarship Fund.
Sarah Blumer received a Gold at the FCCLA National Conference that was held in Anaheim, California, over summer.
The Monticello FCCLA thanked the Ford Motor Company and Monticello Ford for the Drive 4UR School fundraiser which raised $1,300.00.
Four members of Monticello/New Glarus Troop 106 took a High-Adventure trip to the Boundary Waters, accompanied by three adult leaders. They paddled, portaged, hiked, and camped through remote and pristine wilderness. Included in the group were Scouts Joe DiCristina, Ben Collins, Matthew Collins, and Graham Byrd.
Ethan Gray, a member of Monticello/New Glarus Boy Scout Troop 106, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
