Sip and Swipe Program Offered in Monroe

Learn Basic Skills on How to Use a Tablet or iPad Now!

January 30, 2020

The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Green County was awarded a Sip & Swipe Café grant through Generations on Line and the Bader Foundation. This grant provides older adults the opportunity to learn about some of the newest technologies in iPads and tablets. Owning a tablet is not required since the grant provided four tablets, which will be used for hands-on training for seniors. A tablet is a small computer with a touch screen that is swiped instead of using a separate keyboard or mouse.

During the four one-hour sessions, students will be coached by either a volunteer or ADRC personnel and will learn how to turn the tablet off and on, open an app (application), turn pages, make the screen smaller or larger, use the touch screen keyboard, set up an email account and send an email, search for a topic on the internet, and work with links.

Sessions will be held at the Green County ADRC, located at N3152 State Road 81 in Monroe, on February 18th, 20th, 25th, and 27th. One-hour increment time slots are available from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required for this class. Spots are limited to two learners per hour/time slot.

The ADRC is also looking for older adults to volunteer as coaches. The students or learners will move through the on screen tutorial at their own pace, and the coach is there to guide, support, and encourage the new learner. Coaches are provided with a training session and guide materials and will work with one, two, or three learners in a session.

Adults wishing to participate, as either a learner or a coach, should contact Green County ADRC at (608) 328-9499.
