Local COVID-19 Closings and Schedule Changes

COVID-19 is causing many events to be cancelled or postponed. We are attempting to list as many cancellations, postponements and other changes as we can. However, this situation is constantly changing by the day, and sometimes by the hour, so it’s entirely possible that by the time our readers see this information it may be out of date!
Please remember to support local businesses as much as possible. Small businesses are doing the best they can during this time and they need everyone’s help.

The Wisconsin Public Service Commission has directed water, electric, and natural gas utilities to cease disconnecting residential service for nonpayment and also directed utilities reconnect services to dwellings that had been disconnected until the state public health emergency is lifted.
The Village of Belleville’s offices are closed to the public. You may contact them by phone at (608) 424-3341 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Most forms and permit applications are available on their website at http://www.bellevillewi.org or may be emailed to you. Other interactions will be scheduled by appointment only. They are encouraging voters to request an absentee ballot for the April 7th election, however, Village Hall will be partially open for in-person absentee voting as well as open on Election Day.
The Food Pantry at Belleville Village Hall will continue to operate on its normal days of Tuesday, 8:00 a.m.-Noon, and Thursday, 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Starting Monday, March 23rd, the New Glarus School District will be delivering lunches (which will include breakfast for the next day) every weekday to families who request it. They will be sending out a survey and then doing follow-up phone calls to make sure all families who want lunches for their children get them. This program will run until school resumes.
The Gift Shop, Beer Depot and Tours are closed at the New Glarus Brewery.
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Hills, New Glarus, Worship has been cancelled for March 22.
Primrose Lutheran Church is suspending all activities for this upcoming week.
First United Church of Christ, Belleville, announced that there will be no public worship services held at First UCC on March 22 and March 29, 2020. The Wednesday evening Lenten worship and youth activities are cancelled until further notice.
St. Francis of Assisi, Belleville, has made the decision to cancel the following programs until further notice: Religious Education, Faith Journeys, Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. St. Francis of Assisi Church will still hold the Lenten Communal Penance Service on Tuesday, March 24th, at 7:00 p.m.
Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus, is closed. Sermons are available on http://www.swisschurch.org.
Washington Reformation Church, Monticello, has cancelled Sunday School through the end of April. There will still be confirmation classes. With confirmation so close there is work that needs to be done so that they are ready for confirmation on April 26th.
Grace Church, New Glarus, will be doing live streaming of their services.
New Glarus Bible Church will have online services.
Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello has curtailed all services, meals and gatherings and plan to resume Palm Sunday unless advised differently by health experts. Office hours will continue following CDC guidelines.
The New Glarus School District, Monticello School District and Belleville School District are all closed and will remain closed pending guidance from our local, state and federal health officials.
Small World, Kids World and The Growing Tree are all closed.
New Glarus Home, Glarner Lodge and St. Clare Friedensheim will be restricting non-medically necessary visitors from access to the building. That means visitors, including families, will not be allowed to visit their loved ones unless it is end of life and, even in this case, there may be limitations. You may access updated information 24 hours per day on their social media pages or by calling (608) 636-2424 and listening to the voice recorded message. This information is subject to change at any time when regulation is updated or at the discretion of the facility.
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, the Sugar River Senior Center has made the decision to suspend all non-essential Programs, Trips and Activities until further notice. We will be continuing Congregate Meals, Home Delivered Meals and Case Management Services as they are essential programs to the community.
Libraries in New Glarus, Belleville and Monticello are closed.
New Glarus 175th Celebration: The March planning meeting has been cancelled.
The March meeting of the Attica Cemetery Association has been postponed and will be rescheduled for the end of April.
Euchre at the American Legion in New Glarus has been cancelled until further notice.
Winter Bingo at the Belleville American Legion has been cancelled.
The Beekeeping Workshop at the Town of New Glarus has been cancelled.
The Mattress Sale Fundraiser at Monticello Schools has been postponed.
The Village of Monticello is cancelling all board and committee meetings until April 6th. The Clerk’s Office has limited hours, temporarily: Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m .; and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. They also ask that our citizens please drop utility payments in the after hours drop box.
Effective immediately, access to the Belleville EMS building will be restricted to only on-duty EMS personnel. If you have a medical emergency, please call 911. Please DO NOT drive to the EMS building. Contact your primary care physician for any non-emergency questions you may have. Thank you for your assistance in helping us keep our community safe. Beginning March 15, all animal adoptions at the Green County Humane Society will be by appointment only. Animal viewing areas will be closed to the public and volunteers until at least Wednesday, April 1. GCHS has also postponed its April 11 open house/Easter egg hunt. The open house will be rescheduled for a future date. Those interested in adopting or fostering should set up an appointment by calling (608) 325-9600. Monticello Area Historical Society’s March meeting and presentation has been cancelled.
The lobbies of the Bank of New Glarus, State Bank of Cross Plains, Greenwoods State Bank, Monona Bank and Marine Credit Union are closed. The drive ups are still open, along with ATMs and night deposit services.
The Swiss Center of North America is closed.
The pool and work out room at Chalet Landhaus is closed.
The Green County Sheriff’s Office C.R.A.S.E. training has been postponed.
