Outdoor Burning Prohibited in Green County
April 16, 2020
Based on a written request from the Green County Fire Officer’s Association, the Green County Sheriff’s Office has issued an outdoor burning ban, effective immediately. The ban includes all outdoor burning in barrels, piles on the ground and/or grass or wooded areas. Eliminating ignition sources is intended to assist in protecting the health and safety of our firefighters and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and is in effect until further notice.
Green County Code 7-4-27-1 provides the only exceptions to the ban: Fires in any UL approved container. A grill or fireplace which has been specifically designed and constructed so as to provide the safe burning of combustibles. Burning related to the training of any local municipal fire department or which is specifically authorized by and under the supervision of a local municipal fire department. Burning related to fire prevention either sponsored by or under the supervision of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources or the Green County Fire Chief’s Association.
The community will be notified immediately when the outdoor burning ban is lifted.
